New Trends in Law Practice and Legal Education

In the legal profession, change happens fast. What worked one quarter may not work the next. And while there are many different ways to approach a new challenge, it’s not always easy to figure out how to move forward in the face of uncertainty. One approach that has gained popularity in recent years is the idea of law new, which focuses on providing legal services in new ways. That can mean working with underserved communities, embracing technology or creating strategies that have not been a part of traditional practice in the past.

A law new initiative can be a way for a firm to generate business and provide value without impacting other areas of its practice that are its primary focus. A well-thought-out plan incorporating aspects of this concept can allow a firm to unleash its potential and serve clients better.

The New York Law Journal features articles on the latest trends in legal practice and legal education. In addition, the newspaper provides in-depth analysis on topics affecting the practice of law and legal policy, including the impact of federal legislation and changes to state laws. The Journal is published quarterly, and includes columns written by leading practitioners in their respective fields.

Laws of New York

The laws of the City of New York are drafted in bill form, with each law taking on its own unique language as it is passed through the process. The drafting of bills is often conducted by attorneys in New York’s legislative branch, but some interest groups also draft their own bills and submit them for consideration. This section of Bloomberg Law allows users to browse the current laws of the City of New York organized by subject matter, as well as search for and view changes to existing laws (known as bills) proposed by members of the Senate, the Assembly, or the Governor.

This bill would require City agencies to promptly disclose any security breach that involves private identifying information of persons to the City’s Chief Privacy Officer, and the Office of Cyber Command; the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications; and any other appropriate government or private entities and individuals. The bill also would align the City’s data breach notification laws with requirements under New York State’s SHIELD Act.
