What is Entertaiment?

Entertaiment means “to entertain.” Entertainment is the ability to captivate and engage. The etymology of the word is instructive: it is a combination of the Latin verbs intinnere (“to enter”) and mens (“mind”). Entertainment has the power to enter the mind and float with other ideas. This is evident in the way that familiar forms can be reinterpreted and reshaped from one medium to another: for example, the story of Scheherazade in the Persian professional storytelling tradition became an orchestral work by Rimsky-Korsakov, a film by Pasolini and an innovative video game.
